JOB TITLE: Shop Manager

LOCATION: King Street, Great Yarmouth

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Income Operations Manager

HOURS OF WORK: 28 hours per week

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

This is an exciting opportunity to drive forward RSPCA East Norfolk Branch’s charity shop in Gt Yarmouth

 

Supported by a team of volunteers you will be responsible for all aspects of running the shop, maximising income, managing stock, merchandising and motivating your volunteers.

 

You will work to budgeted sales targets and will be expected to control shop expenditure.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Shop Premises

  • overall responsibility for the shop premises, ensuring it is clean, safe and tidy at all times
  • responsible for the security of the shop premises and to keep a strict list of keyholders
  • ensure trading hours are strictly adhered to
  • delegate the opening and closing of the shop to the appointed keyholder in your absence

Staffing:

  • line manage the volunteers
  • recruit, train and manage volunteers to encourage team building and an active involvement in shop activities.
  • prepare staffing rotas to ensure that the shop is adequately staffed on designated opening days, arranging cover as and when needed
  • delegate shop tasks to the volunteers as appropriate

Training and Development:

  • ensure that all volunteers are suitably trained to adequately operate the shop during your periods of absence i.e., day off, annual leave, sickness etc.
  • undertake appropriate self-development to gain further knowledge to improve the overall running of your shop

Customer Service:

  • ensure good customer service is provided including providing advice to customers, dealing with customer complaints and taking payment for goods.

Stock Management:

  • operate effective stock management systems to realise the maximum profit possible from donated goods, adhering to established sorting, pricing and merchandising policies and standards
  • to maintain attractive and themed window displays
  • to ensure that all shops goods on sale conform to agreed levels and standards.
  • to procure donated stock to ensure appropriate levels of quality stock is maintained

Finances/Budgets:

  • achieve sales targets and run a cost-effective operation within set budgets, maintaining an accurate account of the shops financial position
  • maximise Gift Aid income and manage associated documents and procedures
  • identify and implement additional opportunities for income generation and cost reductions in relation to shop activities.
  • maintain control of the petty cash and ensure all expenditure is properly recorded
  • ensure secure cover of the till in your shop and to reconcile the takings daily undertaking a full investigation of any cash shortages.
  • bank all monies daily wherever possible
  • ensure strict security measures are implemented for unbanked cash
  • liaise with the Branch Manager regarding any unplanned expenditure within the shop

Communications:

  • pro-actively communicate at all times to ensure the effective handover of shop duties and any outstanding or follow up actions that are required
  • ensure that your keyholders and volunteers have the necessary information and or any guidance notes to hand, in your absence
  • provide a written shop report monthly for the Branch Committee meeting

Administration / Compliance:

  • complete all shop administration as required by the Branch Manager, charity law and trading legislation
  • comply with all current legislation and Branch policies

Health and Safety:

  • ensure that all applicable health and safety regulations and processes are in place and adhered to for staff and customers.
  • ensure risk assessments are conducted and communicated to all staff
  • ensure that adequate trained first aider/s are in place

Campaigns:

  • educate the public and promote the good name of the Branch and National Society in general through the effective use of campaign materials in the shop.

Other Duties:

  • attend as requested, management meetings and development training courses
  • undertake any other duties which may arise and fall logically within the remit of the Shop Manager
  • you may be required to work at different shops within the branch area. Reasonable notice of this requirement will be given.
